Course Description

I would like to welcome you to Urban Justice. This is an elective class for 11th grade students. The aim of this class is to dive into the concept of justice and to see how it manifests in an urban setting, such as New York City. We will be learning about concepts such as urban planning and how, if at all, they influenced the expansion of New York City from a small Dutch settlement to the mega Metropolis that it is now. We will also look at issues of injustice that have been plaguing the city recently and work to create ways to make New York a better city for all of its inhabitants.

Course Outline

Unit 1: What is Urban Planning?

Unit 2: Building NYC from the ground up.

Unit 3: What is Justice?

Unit 4: New York: How did we get where we are now?

Unit 5: Justice in NYC: What’s been going on?

Unit 6: How do we change NYC for the better?
